Hanoi - Bangkok
We have been notified of the bikes ...
We have had contact with Wilhemsen here in Bangkok and received word that our motorcycles will hit November 14, at last. We really miss our bikes now.
We have installed ourselves at Rider Resort again and have had great contact with all the guys who are here. They have a bike club and we shall run with the Pattaya tomorrow. We will try to make a documentary about the club and its members and what they do, while we are in Pattaya.
Computer Jobs in the terrace ...
Today we worked all day. We've sent mail to the printing of our book, Point and Talk. We have received an inquiry from a slightly larger customers, so when it so we want to see what we can get for the price of a new order. We have also been in contact with the shipping company several times about how we go about getting the paperwork and everything about the import of bikes to Thailand.
Since we wrote last we left Nha Tran and came with the plane to Hanoi. We took the bus from the airport and went back to the same hotel, Hanoi, Legend Hotel, where we lived before and the receptionist was very surprised to see us again. But because we came so early to Hanoi, we wanted to spend the evening in Hanoi and not at a hotel outside the airport. On the bus we started talking with a guy from Australia, Melbourne. His name is Jamie and he came with us to Hanoi Legend and they had a place even for him. Later that evening, he ate with us o to The Irish Wolfhound.
It was fun to walk into the small Irish pub and get a warm welcome from everyone there. It is so easy to get to know people when you're traveling, and most are so friendly. Jamie also likes it there and he rebooked his flight so he could stay a little longer in Hanoi. We exchanged addresses with him and when we come to Australia we were of course welcome to visit him.
We sat for a while down in the intersection and watched the people and traffic. This was our last chance so we sat there and tried to feel the atmosphere before we could leave the city again early the next morning. Hanoi is a bit left in our hearts, big and messy but very charming in its own small way.
Skolagning the intersection ...
Even at Hanoi's international airport there are a bit chaotic rules. Eg did not checkin stands up on the board of departing flights, they may find it myself. Once we found where to check in people just stood in one big lump, and those who were quickest was helped as the next man. When we would go through security so it is good form to take up their computer and show it, but there is no need to do this, they just waved and said we could put it down again. They did not look for liquids or other dangerous things that other security is so sure.
Airports are a bit chaotic places around the world. Even when you come to Bangkok, there is a bit chaotic when you walk into the arrivals hall. Hundreds of taxi drivers trying to get attention and declares that if you just go with them, you will get a cheaper, better and safer to travel wherever you go. Our advice is, ignore them and take a local taxi, or if there is take an airport bus into town.
Last time we came to Bangkok, we were fooled that there were no "ordinary" taxis available, so we went with a couple that "only" wanted 500 baht (about $ 100) to drive us from the airport to our hotel. We were tired and it was late so we accepted.
This time we went down to the 'real' taxis with fare meters, and this time was the trip of 280 baht. It is not money but the feeling of being cheated. Now we are in all cases in Bangkok and the journey continues ...
